Bernoulli’s Spiral — Finding area of spiral skeleton of a seashell

Spiral shell that exhibits growth property of a logarithmic exponential, was first modeled using mathematical equation using polar co-ordinates by Ren Descartes. It was further explored by Jacob Bernoulli. It continued to be famously known as Bernoulli’s logarithmic spiral.

The spiral showcases some interesting mathematical properties such as Fibonacci number sequence, golden ratio. Yet modern mathematics has later proved not all Bernoulli’s spiral exhibits golden ratio with experiments and scientific reasoning. Although variety of variations to original spirals emerged, the original mathematical model gave the solid foundation for the theories thereafter.
