I came across an article, that Robots Teaching Assistants are grading graduate level college assignments with 97.8% accuracy. This made me ponder over AI’s role in education. why 97.8%, why not 100%? what is being done for the 2.2% inaccuracy ? how 97.8% accuracy is even a accuracy ? what is the overhaul of remaining 2.2% ? and so on. AI in education can be too coarse grained to grade or monitor students ability to learn a topic and concept. A missed assignment deadline can downgrade a student unreasonably.
There could be better ways to make use of AI. If AI builds the curriculum it wouldn’t miss out a single topic necessary to be taught at grade level.
AI can build data sets by using mock exams to build a learning curve to get overall idea of strengths and weaknesses of the students. This can help fine tune the syllabus topics to be kept or removed.
I think, AI can not replace a human perspective on assessing a student, until the AI machine itself can think like human and be more human like. AI is evolving at each passing day and has enormous benefits of outreaching areas and segments which were overlooked. Perhaps AI can do much better than just tell us what to buy and overindulge in ?
